Governor Kasich met with the Director of Ohio's Department of Developmental Disabilities, John Martin, and 16 county boards of developmental disabilities to focus on how these agencies have reduced overhead expenses in light of Ohio's struggling state budget.
Expenses have been reduced through some shared service agreements. Kasich praised these efforts. John Martin commented, "County boards of developmental disabilities have always been on the forefront of innovation when it comes to social-service agencies. We are very supportive of efforts like these (shared services) to make sure our state's most vulnerable are not harshly affected by our state's tough financial situation."
The Governor is also promoting a person-centered management approach for Medicare and Medicaid innovation. Service for all physical, behavioral, long-term care and social needs would then not be based on providers, possibly causing overlaps, but on a person's total services.
