New 20-Unit Apartment Building Opens in Akron

 Apartment Building in Akron

Due to the closing of a HUD (U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development) supported building that was home to 150 low income tenants, the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board of Summit County (the ADM Board) asked North Coast Community Homes (NCCH) to consider the purchase and renovation of a 20-unit building which became available in Akron. With the financial support of the ADM Board and the Ohio Department of Mental Health (ODMH), NCCH purchased the building in April 2005 to provide housing for 20 of these displaced tenants.

Extensive renovations were required to bring this building to the quality standards of all NCCH properties. Financial support for these renovations has been provided in part by the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation. Additional funding is being sought from other foundations as well.

Our new tenants, all of whom are diagnosed with mental illness, will begin moving into their new homes in July 2005.
