Annual Meeting, 2007
Patrick R. Finley, Trustee and Co-Chairman of the Annual Meeting Committee, welcomed a group of approximately 325 attendees to the 2007 North Coast Community Homes Annual Meeting. Gary Shamis, Chairman of the Board, reported on the state of the agency and Commissioner Jimmy Dimora brought greetings from the Cuyahoga County Commissioners.
Dick Russ, Trustee and Managing Editor/News Anchor of WKYC-TV3, was the keynote speaker. His was a personal message as his brother Russell was challenged with intellectual impairment. Dick said, “Well, you can’t change things that were, but you certainly can change the way things are going to be. For those of us with a loved one with a disability, I think that is our shared goal. By taking our private experience, and joys and successes, our heartbreaks and frustrations, and being open to the possibility of venturing into public with those experiences, is at the heart of what we call advocacy.”
Each year two very significant awards are presented at the Annual Meeting. This year’s Above & Beyond Award winner was Marilyn McGuigan Cunin who was recognized for her deep caring that has led her to various leadership and service roles in many organizations in our community.
Senator Robert F. Spada was presented with the Community Service Award in honor of his sponsorship and work on the passage of the Mental Health Parity Bill in the State of Ohio.
